Fall 2026 • Inaugural Season You know how to play. Now let's get you playing! Ready to turn what you've learned into more mahjong, more confidence, and new friendships? Join Mahj the Rock for our inaugural New Player Social League - four evenings of friendly competition, plenty of play, and meaningful connections around the mahjong table! Designed for newer American Mahjong players who know the fundamentals and are ready to play more regularly, this league offers a welcoming environment to strengthen your game through experience. You'll rotate tables each week, meet new players, enjoy different tile sets and table setups, and compete for weekly prizes and end-of-season awards. We'll keep score and celebrate our winners, but the emphasis is always on fun, friendship, and community! League Dates Wednesday, November 11 Wednesday, November 18 Wednesday, December 9 Wednesday, December 16 - Holiday Finale & Awards! Time: 6:00–8:30 PM | Play begins at 6:15 PM Location: Round Rock, TX (exact location shared with registered players) Who should join? This league is for newer players who understand the fundamentals of American Mahjong and can participate in a game with occasional rules clarification. You don't need to play quickly or be an expert, but you should be comfortable playing without continuous coaching. If you've just completed your first lesson and haven't played since, we recommend Mahjong 102 or Beginner Guided Play before joining. A little extra for our inaugural season! Registered players are invited to an optional, complimentary refresher on November 4 to brush up on the basics before league play begins. Registration includes all four league evenings, light snacks and refreshments, weekly prize opportunities, and a festive holiday finale. Bring your current NMJL card and get ready to Mahj! What is the cancellation policy? Cancellations received by October 28, 2026, at 11:59 PM CT are eligible for a refund, less applicable processing fees. Beginning October 29, registrations are nonrefundable, and refunds or credits are not available for individual missed league nights. 2. Am I experienced enough to join? If you know the fundamentals of American Mahjong and can play a game without continuous coaching, you're ready! You don't need to be fast or an expert. Questions are welcome, and the focus is on having fun, building confidence, and connecting with other players. 3. What if I can't attend all four evenings? We encourage everyone to attend all four, but we understand that schedules can be tricky! Your best three nightly scores count toward the final standings, so missing one evening won't automatically take you out of the running. 4. How competitive is the league, and how does scoring work? It's friendly competition, not tournament mahjong! We'll track scores throughout the season, with small weekly prizes and final awards. Mahjong scores are based on the NMJL card, with 10 bonus points for a self-pick and 10 points per player for a wall game. Up to three games per table each evening count toward scoring, with no timers or required pace. Final standings use your best three of four evenings. The focus is on playing regularly, building confidence, and having fun! 5. What if I need a refresher before the league starts? We've got you! An optional, complimentary refresher session will be offered on November 4, from 6:00–7:15 PM, to help you brush up on the fundamentals before league play begins.
