Mahjong 101 + Mahjong 102: A Two Part Beginner Lesson Series

Ready to learn American Mahjong—and have the opportunity to put what you learn into practice? This *** two-part beginner series *** is designed to take you from learning the fundamentals of American Mahjong to playing real games with greater confidence. You'll learn alongside a small group in both sessions, creating a comfortable, relaxed environment where questions are encouraged and there’s plenty of support along the way. Part One: Mahjong 101 — Learn to Mahj Wednesday, September 23 | 6–8:30 PM We’ll start from the very beginning and walk through the fundamentals of American Mahjong, including the tiles, the NMJL card, game setup, game play, jokers, calling tiles, and how to build a winning hand. No prior mahjong experience is needed. Part Two: Mahjong 102 — Guided Beginner Play Wednesday, September 30 | 6–8:30 PM One week later, we’ll turn what you learned into real game experience. You’ll play full games with coaching and support along the way—giving you the opportunity to ask questions, practice using the card, and build confidence around the table. You'll also learn the Charleston in Part 2, preparing you to play real games with other players. Your $85 registration includes *** TWO sessions***, the Mahj the Rock Welcome to Mahjong guide, light snacks and refreshments each evening, and everything you'll need to learn and play—all in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Guests are also welcome to BYOB. You can also purchase your own 2026 National Mah Jongg League card directly from Mahj the Rock for $15 — yours to keep and use for future mahjong play! Mahjong has a lot to learn, and you don't have to remember it all after one lesson. This series gives you the chance to learn together, play together, and build confidence one game at a time. Cancellations within 72 hours of the first session are non-refundable. Registration is for the complete two-part series; individual sessions cannot be refunded separately.
